Meet Dr. Truglia BSc, ND
As I think back to my childhood I can remember my sister and I lining up our dolls, taking out our play doctor equipment and checking their vitals as we tried to make them "feel better". I have always had a passion to help people, making them feel better and making a difference in people's lives. From a young age I knew medicine was my passion.
As I continued through my journey of education I had a strong interest in science beginning from elementary school. This carried on through highschool and then into university.
I graduated McMaster University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree completing a double major in Biology and Psychology. At this time in my life I was also working part time in a pharmacy and that is when I realized that there had to be another way, a natural way, to help people with their illness, aside from taking an endless number of prescription drugs.
On my quest to figure out my future career I came across Naturopathic Medicine and as soon as I read through the principles and philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine I knew it was the career for me. It focused on helping people get better with the least amount of harm, a strong emphasis on natural therapies, and education. It brings people back to nature and teaches them the ability of the body to heal itself with minimal guidance and assistance. I entered into the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2006. There I studied naturopathic medicine and along side my studies I took outside courses in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, Reiki , and doula certification. I also travelled to India in my second year at the college to study Homeopathy under world reknowned Homeopathic doctors.
In my fourth year of studies I was an intern at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic treating patients under the supervision of highly qualified Naturopathic Doctors, with one of my weekly shifts being focused on mental health issues. I have also treated patients at Anishnawbe, the Native Indian clinic in Toronto, on a 4 month rotation
I graduated the Canadian College of Natuorpathic Medicine in 2010 and through my four years of training natural medicine has not only become a career but a strong passion of mine.
In November 2010, I began practicing Naturopathic Medicine at Absolute Rehabilitation and Wellness, a multidisciplinary clinic in Stoney Creek, Ontario. In 2013, I embarked upon a new journey which involved beginning my own naturopathic clinic, Stoney Creek Natural Wellness Center. I have an eclectic practice treating a broad range of health conditions with an emphasis on diabetes, mental health, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular health, woman's health and gastrointestinal conditions. I also worked as a Naturopathic Consultant for CanPrev Premium Natural Health Products for 6 years.
I love being a part of the Stoney Creek community and have been involved in several talks at Goodness Me, varying support groups, health fairs and contracted as a columnist for the local Hamilton Spectator and Inside Fitness Magazine.
I am blessed to be a mom to my 4 wonderful children who have not only helped me grow as a person but also as a Naturopathic Doctor. They have taught me patience, empathy, understanding, compassion and quite frankly the importance of work-life balance. Being relatable and understanding the difficulties that can come with putting things into practice allows me to help my patients attain their goals in the least stressful, most sustainable way. I am dedicated to educating, empowering and motivating my patients on their health journey.
I am currently a member in good standing of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario.
